What is a SEER Rating?

Energy Savings Agreements Fredericksburg VA

On your HVAC system, you may have a certain SEER rating that the unit has been issued. However, it is okay if you don’t know what exactly this means. In this post, we’ll discuss what SEER stands for, what a SEER rating is, and why you might want to have a higher rating.

SEER Rating

A SEER rating is the abbreviated way to say “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio Rating”; this rating is clearly figured on your unit as it transitions from one season to the next. This ratio is the measurement of the cooling air that is put out by the unit divided by the energy used during the process.  Essentially, this ratio is a measure of how energy efficient your unit is.

The higher the rating, the more energy efficient your unit is. If you receive a higher rating, you’re in good shape for conservation of energy and reduced utility bills.

Not Sure?

Some older HVAC systems don’t have a SEER rating. This doesn’t necessarily mean your unit is inefficient, it just means that your system isn’t guaranteed to be energy efficient. Have the Robert B. Payne come inspect your unit for efficiency. If you decide that it’s time to upgrade, you know now what a SEER rating is and what to look for while shopping!
