Top Things You Need to Know About HVAC Warranties

We’ve gotten many calls from our Frederisckburg clients curious about HVAC warranties and how they work. So we wanted to take the time to put together this article in order to answer some of those questions and concerns.

In this article, Robert B Payne, Inc. looks at the top things you need to know about HVAC warranties.

How Long do HVAC Warranties Last?

The length and conditions of a warranty will vary greatly among manufactures, but, in our experience, we typically see a minimum of a 5 year warranty on all parts on a residential HVAC system.

Do Warranties Cover All Parts of the HVAC Unit?

Most all manufactures should offer some type of warranty on their equipment. Most residential HVAC manufacturers will cover equipment, depending on their product offer. This usually includes a minimum of 1 year warranty on parts, 5 year on compressor, and 20 year on heat exchangers. There are even some that offer up to 10 year on parts and a limited lifetime on compressors and heat exchangers.

All consumers should carefully check their HVAC warranty on not only equipment, but parts, and labor. Some companies only warranty labor for 30 days, but Robert B Payne, Inc. warranties all labor a minimum of 1 year. So make sure you read the fine print.

Are There Extended Warranties on HVAC Units?

At this time, we’re not aware of any manufacture in the area that offers extended warranties on HVAC systems. It is possible to find an extended warranty for your system through a 3rd party company. To cover a complete system you can expect to pay between $500.00-750.00 cost range to purchase a 10 year parts and labor warranty from a 3rd party company.
