When Should You Change Your Furnace Filter?
With your furnace, upkeep and cleanliness are crucial. From prolonging the life of your unit to keeping the your family healthy in the air they breathe, these two factors make a world of difference. So, let’s talk about when you should change your furnace filter and why that upkeep chore matters.
Monthly, monthly, monthly. That’s the short answer. Changing your filter monthly is key. Some experts may say this change needs to only happen every few months or whenever you see that the filter is visibly dirty, but we disagree. We definitely think it’s better to be safe than sorry and to replace your filter monthly.
The Fredericksburg climate is totally different than say that of other cities in the U.S. We often use our furnaces longer and more frequently than towns with warmer climates. It’s no stretch of the imagination to say we get a lot of work from our furnaces. So the monthly filter change, which works best for our weather, keeps it from working too hard to do its everyday job and keeps it lasting longer.
The elephant in the room here though is that buying filters consistently can cost you money, especially if you’re doing it often. However, with frequent changing, you are avoiding possible emergency costs in the future. With changing the filter now, you avoid maintenance visits later.
