Install a New Furnace Today
Should you experience any issues with your furnace, ask yourself a few questions to decide whether to repair or replace it.
- How old is your furnace? Furnaces typically last 16 to 20 years. If your furnace is older than 20 years, it may be time for a replacement.
- Are your gas and electricity bills going up? Higher gas and electricity bills may indicate that you need a new furnace installation or that your furnace is less efficient than it once was.
- Have you had your furnace repaired in the past 2 years? If you find yourself having to make repairs to your furnace for two or more years in a row, then you might want to think about getting a brand new furnace. Rather than waiting for those hard-to-find replacement parts, you and your family will be better off installing an energy-efficient heater.
- Are there any strange noises coming from your furnace? It is not unusual for older furnaces to develop unusual noises as they age. Odd noises include squealing, popping, banging, and rattling.
- Is your health okay? If you or anyone else in your home has been experiencing flu-like symptoms, nausea, or a burning in the nose or eyes, it may indicate a carbon monoxide leak from your aging furnace.
Furnace Replacement
We rely on a furnace to keep our homes warm during the winter, and when the unit fails, there’s no time to waste. No heat means freezing conditions inside, and if outdoor temperatures are freezing, each minute without heat could lead to illness or frozen pipes. You can stave off a winter emergency by opting for professional repairs or replacements.
Furnace repairs are not something homeowners can do themselves. These are complex systems, and an experienced professional is essential. If repairs do not suffice, Robert B. Payne Heating & Air technicians will recommend a replacement. A replacement is a useful option when you’re paying too much in annual repair costs. It’s a better investment all around. A replacement furnace will improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and provide better heating throughout the household. It’s a smart move. Just give us a call to secure professional furnace replacement services!

Furnace Filter Installation
Installing your furnace filter is quick and easy once you know what to do:
- Locate the furnace filter slot: It’s long and thin and often easy to find. If you don’t see it right away, look for any visible vents around the furnace or consult the furnace manual.
- Determine the filter size: If you have a filter in the furnace slot already, just read the numbers (for example: 16” x 25” x 1”). If you don’t have a filter, get out your measuring tape. If you can’t find the exact measurements you took at the store, go up to the nearest inch (for example, if you measure 24½”, buy one that is 25”).
- Get the right type of filter: There are a few types of furnace filters: flat disposable, pleated, and HEPA. There is also a rating called MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value). Typically, the higher the number, the more particles it can catch. Get the best filter you can afford.
- Install the filter: The filter will have an arrow. The arrow should point toward the furnace, as this is the direction the air will be flowing from.
That’s it! Enjoy your clean, filtered air!

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do my furnace burners ignite but then shut off after only a few seconds?
This is often caused by a dirty or faulty flame sensor, a safety component that detects the presence of a flame to prevent unburned gas from entering your home. If the sensor is coated in carbon buildup, it can’t “see” the flame and will signal the system to shut down for safety, requiring a professional cleaning or replacement.
What causes a gas furnace to leak water, and is it a safety concern?
In high-efficiency furnaces, water is a normal byproduct of combustion and is safely removed via a condensate drain. However, if you see pooling water, it usually indicates a clogged drain line, a cracked collector box, or a leaking secondary heat exchanger, all of which require immediate professional attention to prevent water damage or system failure.
Does a standard furnace repair include a check for carbon monoxide leaks?
Yes, every repair visit prioritizes your safety by including a visual inspection of the heat exchanger for cracks and a check of the flue pipe for proper venting. We also recommend that every homeowner maintain functioning carbon monoxide detectors near all sleeping areas to provide an extra layer of protection against this odorless, colorless gas.
How do your technicians ensure my existing electrical panel can handle the load of a new high-efficiency blower motor?
During our pre-installation assessment, we inspect your home’s electrical service and circuit breakers to confirm they meet the amperage requirements for your specific new model. If an upgrade is necessary to support modern ECM blower motors or electronic air cleaners, we will identify those needs before the installation begins.
